That’s picadillo (little mince-y thing) not pecadillo (little naughty thing) - these dear little bake-at-home Latin American crescent-shaped pies are way too nice. We use our homemade shortcrust pastry to wrap a deliciously different filling of ground beef spiced with cumin and cinnamon, with the crunch of toasted almonds and surprising bursts of sweet currants. One in the hand makes a substantial on-the-go tummy-filler; a couple on a plate with salad and chutney, a satisfying dinner. 

To Serve

A herby green salsa would go well – blend whatever herbs you have to hand with jalapenos, garlic, lime juice and olive oil – or dunk in any chutney or chilli sauce you like. To make more of a full dinner of them, serve with guacamole and a salad or slaw. And always bake a couple of extras – they're excellent in lunchboxes.

Preheat oven (FF) to 200C. Place the pasties on a paper-lined oven tray and brush with egg wash or milk. DEFROSTED: bake for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown. FROZEN: bake for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
