The cure for anything that ails you, body or soul, this comforting and super-healthy meal-in-a-bowl gets its deep, marrow-nourishing flavour from a base of soup vegetables and barley, cooked in proper, homemade chicken broth, with shredded free-range chicken and silverbeet. Lunch or supper, grab a hunk of warm, crusty bread and dig in. 

To Serve

Serve with warm, crusty bread and an extra grind of black pepper, with a chunk of Parmesan for grating and a drizzle of olive oil.

Defrost fully before reheating gently in a saucepan or microwave-safe container, stirring occasionally, till piping hot. If you feel the soup is too thick, add 1/2 cup of water to loosen it.
