Five Kitchen Hacks To Work Smarter, Not Harder.

Five Kitchen Hacks To Work Smarter, Not Harder.

We’re all for ways to cut down time, cull down that second draw clutter and get dinner on the table, STAT. We’ve rustled up our best hacks to help you buzz through prep so you can call out, dinner’s ready! Even faster.

Speedy Herb Picking
Herbs are a fragrant and vibrant addition to dinners, but the stems? Not so much. They’re woody, sometimes bitter and do not belong atop your freshly cooked (or heated) dinner. Say farewell to fiddly picking by running the stem through the large hole of your box grater to whisk the leaves off the stem in seconds. Magic! Save the stems for your veggie stock — they’ve still got plenty of flavour to bring.

Rolling Pin Wine
No rolling pin? Not a problem. Surely you’ve got a bottle of wine hanging around that can carry the load. Use it to roll out flatbreads or crush toasted almonds under a tea towel. Once you’re finished rolling, it can serve its original purpose and be cracked open for dinner. Now, that’s teamwork.

Scissor Slices

A pizza cutter is one of those single-use contraptions that hides in the bottom of your already full-to-the-brim second drawer. Instead of rummaging around, use kitchen scissors to cut your pizzas in a few easy snips. All you need now is something to put it to the test!

Portion Prepping

Use your ice cube trays to freeze smaller portions of ingredients so you’ve got everything on hand when you need it. When citrus is everywhere, make the most of it by squeezing and freezing so you’re prepped when you need an ice-cold margarita to go with taco night. Ahhhh.

Better Butter

Hard butter has ruined many sandwiches in it’s path. If you’re dealing with fresh-out-of-the-fridge butter when building your next stack, simply push the butter through a sieve with the back of a spoon to bring it to spreadable perfection in seconds. See you later squished, ripped bread and hello to evenly buttered slices.
